It's not often you get to stand in the middle of Wallisdown road to take a photograph and not be taking your life in your own hands. But essential maintenance currently under way in Wallisdown means the busy road is closed to traffic.
Unsurprisingly the local shops were quieter than usual.
The road between Canford Road and Kinson Road is closed from Tuesday 14th October for up to 5 days whilst Sembcorp (Bournemouth Water) carry out urgent works. For more information please contact Sembcorp on 01202 591111.
Targeted youth work to support young people
Plans to modernise youth services in order to target the most vulnerable young people in Bournemouth have been agreed.
Papers that came before the Cabinet meeting on 11 September) outlined three areas that the Council’s integrated youth service will focus on.
The first of these is easier access to information and guidance and intervention at an early stage.

Bournemouth bike loan scheme hailed a success
A bicycle loan scheme aimed at students and staff that launched in October last year, has already been taken up by 50 Bournemouth University (BU) students. The scheme, funded by the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF), is the result of collaboration between BU and Bournemouth Borough Council’s Getting About team and provides students with a loan bike, ‘D’ lock, lights and helmet for just £25 a year.
New Sue Ryder Shop Raises £4,717 in First Month
The opening of the new Sue Ryder shop in Wallisdown, in between Bournemouth and Poole, was a real success when customers queued to get into the store after it officially opened last month.
The health and social care charity would like to say thank you to the generous shoppers and volunteers of Wallisdown, who helped the shop raise just under £500 on the first day and a whopping £4,717 since it opened on January 24th.

Bargain hunters will be in their element as Sue Ryder opens a new charity shop in the retail heart of Wallisdown, on the border of Bournemouth and Poole. Shoppers keen for some budget-friendly retail therapy will be able to bag some fantastic finds at the Kinson Road store, which is located in a prime position just behind the Aldi supermarket.
Students Pull Together to Protect Charity in Cash Crisis
Bournemouth University recently selected The Dorset Blind Association as one of their four core charities for this academic year via a student vote. “We want to help charities where we know our money will really make a difference” said Emma Hiscutt, Activities Development Manager at BU Students' Union.
