Further improvements include hundreds of new bike racks at key locations around the town and six free bicycle maintenance stations on the promenade. With free bicycle security initiatives and plenty of opportunities to get out on free guided bike rides with Sky Ride Local, cycling in Bournemouth has never been easier.

As an added incentive to get more people to ‘Give It A Go’ and get out on their bikes the Council has launched a fun cycling photo competition this summer, offering six chances to win an iPad Air 2 – with lucky winners drawn weekly. 

If you fancy a chance of winning a bright, shiny, new iPad Air 2 just for getting out on your bike all you need to do is go for a cycle ride, take a photo and enter the Instagram competition. 

Mike Holmes, Service Director for Transport and cycling enthusiast said; “We are delighted to have completed these major improvements across the town.  Recent additions include segregated continental style lanes on Castle Lane West and Richmond Hill as well as a scenic traffic free route through Stour Valley Nature Reserve. 

“Cycling is a fantastic way to keep in shape and get around the town. Whether you try swapping the car for a bike on your commute to work or head out for a leisurely ride with family and friends, be sure to catch a quick picture and get involved in the competition.” 

Councillor Mike Greene, Cabinet member for Transport said; “Giving people better options on how they travel is a top priority for the Council and I am delighted that we have been able to invest in making cycling safer and easier. 

“I urge everyone to get out and give cycling a go this summer; thanks to the recent improvements cycling in Bournemouth has really never been easier.”
