Secondly, the Council will build on its current successes working with vulnerable young people in key target areas of Boscombe, West Howe, and Townsend. In Boscombe the authority is investing over £ ½ million in purchasing and refurbishing the former Argos building in order to create new youth provision and relocate the Boscombe Regeneration office. The Council has also committed £400,000 to modernise youth facilities for the East and West Howe communities.
Thirdly, the agreed plans will see greater involvement from young people, the community and voluntary sector in designing and delivering services.
Proposals for identified groups and specific neighbourhoods will be developed further over the next few months.
Cabinet member for Education and Children’s Services, Councillor Nicola Greene, said: “We are committed to providing the highest quality provision of Youth Services and to continue to support the most vulnerable of our young people.
“Using modern information technology and working with our experienced partners in the voluntary sector we will provide Bournemouth’s young people with easier access to high quality advice and guidance, increase their involvement in influencing their own lives and enable them to make a successful transition into work and adulthood.”
The transformation of youth services in the town will save £500,000 by the end of March 2017, through management re-structuring, more partnership collaboration with the private and voluntary sectors and the increased use of IT.
